The Silver Line is the newest partner in the business community. Businesses of all sizes can partner with Metro to encourage Silver Line travel for their employees through the SmartBenefits® program.

Employers in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan region understand the competitive nature of attracting and retaining the best employees. That’s why nearly 4,000 organizations already provide the SmartBenefits® commuting benefit to 250,000 workers in the region.

Metro hosts SmartBenefits® Seminars for employers to learn how to offer employees a better way to get to work, save money, and take advantage of the most recent enhancements to SmarTrip® and the Silver Line. SmartBenefits® is a versatile and valuable benefit for both employers and employees. It’s an IRS-compliant, web-based program that lets employers assign the dollar value of employees’ monthly commuting benefit directly to reusable, rechargeable plastic SmarTrip® cards. It can be offered as a direct employee benefit, a pre-tax deduction, or a combination of both – it’s as flexible as your needs, and available online 24/7.

With SmartBenefits® linked to a SmarTrip® card, the money can be used on Metrorail and Metrobus, as well as numerous regional providers:

  • ART (Arlington Transit)
  • CUE (Fairfax City)
  • DASH (Alexandria)
  • DC Circulator
  • Fairfax Connector
  • Loudon County Commuter Bus Service
  • OmniRide
  • PRTC (Potomac and Rappahannock Transportation Commission)
  • Ride On (Montgomery County)
  • TheBus (Prince George’s County)

Benefits on a SmarTrip® cards are limited for use on bus and rail. However, transit benefits may be reallocated by employees for MetroAccess, MARC, VRE, MTA commuter buses, registered van pools and independent bus services.

Metro invites businesses to open their doors to a larger employee pool and new potential customers, while avoiding the area’s unpredictable traffic. Experts agree that public transit can drive the local economy and generates business sales, revenues and new private investment.

It’s time for businesses to get connected to the endless possibilities of the Silver Line!
